Meet the finalists: Katman and Robin

>> Tuesday 6 July 2010

We talk to another pair of the finalists before the NomNomNom cook-off. Today it's Kate and Robin, aka Katman & Robin

Robin and Katman

What makes you two the perfect NomNomNom pairing?

We work together – so we're already a well oiled team. We mean that in an entirely non-creepy way. Kate is loud and Robin is considered so we will probably end up cooking together like an old married couple.

What impact do you think social networks and bloggers have had on the world of cooking and/or restaurant reviewing?

Mainstream press are still really important in terms of the opinions of consumers and bloggers, but because most restaurants live and die word of mouth recommendation, online networks and review sites are increasingly important for restaurateurs to be aware of and interact with.

Can you tell us about a memorable disaster you've had in the kitchen?

Robin: I once redecorated my kitchen while trying to make a smoothie, it was then that I realised using a powerful hand blender in a mug was not quite the right method

Kate: Naming one is hard, but I'd say early days with my lovely boyfriend - trying to impress him by cooking all his favourite foods. I just went a little overboard with quantities. He was too polite to turn anything down and ended up having to pace for 30 minutes afterwards so he wouldn't be sick and they say romance is dead!

Which ingredient can you not live without?

Chilli, lime oh and garlic (is three allowed?)

And finally, what is the special element that will ensure that your team wins?

Aside from our reckless disregard for normal cooking convention...... Alcohol – both in our desert and as an aid for the team. Nothing says winner like a cook on the sauce.

Follow Kate and Robin on Twitter on Sunday 11th July and we promise to keep the booze away from them before they sit down to eat.
